2020 and 2021 English Pegasus Scholars visit United States

Each year, the American Inns of Court participates in an exchange program with the English Inns of Court called the Pegasus Scholarship Trust. The program was established to provide young English barristers with an opportunity to spend six weeks abroad for the purpose of learning about a foreign legal system. The Pegasus Scholarship Trust also provides young lawyers from other countries with an opportunity to spend six weeks in London learning about the English legal system.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-2021 English scholars travelled to the United States this spring to participate in their postponed program. The Washington, District of Columbia 2020 scholars were Lily Walker-Parr and Spencer Turner, and 2021 scholars were Jamil Mohammed and William Sneddon.  

Walker-Parr is a barrister with 5RB Chambers in Central London and is a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. Turner is a barrister with 12 King’s Bench Walk in Central London and is a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. Mohammed is a barrister with 33 Bedford Row in Central London and is a member of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. Sneddon is a barrister with 5 King’s Bench Walk in Central London and is a member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.

While in the United States, these scholars met with leading attorneys and members of the judiciary to understand and learn the mechanics and day-to-day work of the United States justice system. They enjoyed trips to Sacramento, California, hosted by the Anthony M. Kennedy AIC; and Lexington, Kentucky hosted by the Central Kentucky AIC. Their final two weeks were spent in Washington, District of Columbia where they visited several federal, state, and local courts in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

2020 scholar was Daniel Webb, and the 2021 scholar was Tiernan Fitzgibbon who participated in a special New York, New York placement coordinated by the MoloLamken LLP. Webb is a barrister with Selborne Chambers in Central London and a member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. Fitzgibbon is a barrister with Five Paper in Central London and a member of The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

All six scholars participated in a week long program in Washington, DC and attended the 2021 American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence event at the Supreme Court of the United States held on April 2, 2022.
