Implicit Bias: Now You See It; Now You Don't
This course is designed to assist attorneys and judges in recognizing implicit bias and its effects on the legal profession. Participants will be guided through research on implicit bias and individuals’ feelings and understanding of their own implicit bias. Participants will end the course with a greater understanding of themselves, as well as strategies to employ by one or many to mitigate and even overcome negative implications of implicit bias in the practice of law.
During this experience you will:
  • Learn terms for understanding and discussing implicit bias.
  • Review research on implicit bias, both generally and in the practice of law.
  • Discuss the intersection of implicit bias with professionalism and civility.
  • Explore strategies and tactics for mitigating implicit bias in themselves.
  • Explore strategies and tactics for mitigating implicit bias in others.
  • Locate resources designed to assist and support them in their journey.
  • Interact with experienced facilitators who provide personalized education.

  • The course opens Sunday, February 9, 2025 and runs through Saturday, March 15, 2025.
  • Each module will have multiple opportunities to contribute to various discussion threads. 
  • There are three webinars that participants are required to attend. 
  • You can earn up to 8 CLE credit hours in most jurisdictions.
  • Completion garners you a "Implicit Bias Awareness" certificate from the American Inns of Court.
