Kinky Partners: Binary, Bathrooms & Bias
Following the recent repeal of the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act in North Carolina, more commonly known as the North Carolina Bathroom Bill, this program entertainingly educated audience members on the issues of bias in relation to members of the transgender community and those who do not identify with any traditional gender titles. Act One gave the overview of the Bathroom Bill and transgender bias. Acts Two and Three further explored issues of gender identification and civility. Immediately following the acts the presenting group led a discussion on the applicable rules and anti-discrimination laws, this was also the time where audience members were able to ask questions and share their own experiences. To conclude the program some team members dressed in opposite gender identifying clothing and sung “Color of the Wind”, which symbolized the importance of remaining neutral and celebrating each other’s differences!
