2016 English Pegasus Scholars visit United States

Each year, the American Inns of Court participates in an exchange program with the English Inns of Court called the Pegasus Scholarship Trust. The program was established to provide young English barristers with an opportunity to spend six weeks abroad to learn about foreign legal systems. The program also allows young lawyers from other countries to spend six weeks in London to learn about the English legal system.

This year’s English scholars were Heather Oliver and Laura Gould. Gould is a barrister with Kings Chambers in Manchester and a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn; and Oliver is a barrister with Three Raymond Buildings in London and a member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

While in Washington, DC, the scholars visited the Supreme Court of the United States, the Pentagon, Capitol Hill, Georgetown University Law Center, and a number of federal, state, and local courts in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

The scholars met with leading attorneys in criminal, sports law, and employment litigation and were hosted by several Inns: the Chester Bedell AIC in Jacksonville, Florida; the Terry-Carey AIC in Wilmington, Delaware; the Garland R. Walker AIC in Houston, Texas; and the Temple AIC in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

While in Washington, DC, the scholars attended the American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence at the Supreme Court of the United States.
